The central aim of this project is to support the implementation of wave 6 of SHARE in Croatia. In addition aim of the SHARE implementation in Croatia is building a database needed in researching of ageing process both on the individual and aggregate level. Demographic data about the family, social networks, individual health status, employment and retirement are just part of them to be collected among the respondents aged 50+ in Croatia. The Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) is designed as a research infrastructure to answer these and similar questions in the fields of health and health care, employment and retirement, social networks and intergenerational relations, as well as pensions and socio-economics. The specific value of SHARE lies within the unique trans-disciplinary combination of collecting health and labour market data as well as information on socio-economic status and the family environment, and this cross-nationally harmonized to capture different economic, health, and social policies. SHARE thereby allows a better understanding of the interactions between demographic change and public policies in Europe, and a benchmarking with indicators derived from harmonized data across the EU member states. SHARE is embedded in a global network of sister surveys. Most significantly, SHARE has created a joint data set together with ELSA, the English Longitudinal Study on Ageing, which is currently being expanded to Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, to also cover the United Kingdom. SHARE is modelled after the U.S. Health and Retirement Study (HRS). Studies in Korea, Japan, China, India, and Brazil follow the SHARE model and permit fascinating studies on global ageing.
